Great coffee. Friendly staff. Blackboard menu, specials and cabinet food. Had the BLT bagel. Delicious. Outdoor and indoor seating. Shame they don&#39;t do thick shakes but hardly worth rating them less on this. Looks nice and clean. Clearly a favourite with locals. Would go here again.

garlic bread in flower pot The organization is too moist, the sauce has no special characteristics, organic blueberry juice is oob; intalian meatball and scallop risotto really ordered a one-day special, oyster as a head plate 15NZ$, with a cup of Chardonney.... tastes good.

A group of like-minded friends came to the tack shop&#39;s restaurant to eat, and were deeply attracted by the elegant environment here, and their dishes were more exquisite overall.

I think the most important thing to miss is the fruit bread made by their family. This fruit bread has a faint tea fragrance, made by raisins, dried apricots, and peels. It is especially delicious and sweet. It is a pleasure to have another cup of coffee in the garden for an afternoon.

A restaurant with a very good view. The style inside is similar to the club. The soup is very good. The big lawn at the door looks very cool. The children are running in it.

A great little cafe. Fabulous coffee &amp; breakfast. A local hangout so obviously a must if you enjoy your coffee.

The Black Dog has been our &quot;go to&quot; cafe in Matakana for years. Since its change of ownership I have been at least three times. I know because I have left with a feeling of disappointment each time. The coffee is not as good as previously, the long black was good, whilst my wife felt that her trim mocha was better than a previous visit but still inferior to before the change. The weird thing is that the girl who made excellent coffee before the change has been relegated to serving! Today everyone had poached eggs, they were hard-boiled! Three disappointments in a row. Will I return? Probably, but a little water will flow under the bridge.

Let me start by saying the food was ok, it wasn&#39;t bad but the menu food was better than the cabinet food. The service however was rather abysmal. I ordered a croissant (not toasted), a chicken filo and a Kumara salad, both of which I requested to be heated extra hot (am pregnant so wanted to be sure the food is re-heated adequately). As the rest of my table were half finished their meals and my order hasn&#39;t yet arrived, we went to find out where it was. We arrived to see the croissant for my toddler about to be toasted, so we reminded them we wanted it fresh. It took another 15 minutes for the croissant to arrive at our table. Then the Kumara salad arrived, on the cold side of warm. I asked them to please reheat it to piping hot. The filo arrived, also lukewarm. I asked could it please be hot. It came back hot finally but there was still no sign of the salad so I reminded a waiter I was waiting for it. It came back at the same temperature! I asked for a third time could it be actually hot and finally they took it into the kitchen to do the job properly. I don&#39;t believe it is difficult to use a microwave, or to stick a croissant from the cabinet onto a plate and bring it out, but the black dog cafe don&#39;t seem to have mastered these yet.
